Earth Day Made Easy
Spring has arrived, and with it, the melting snow is giving way to a greener world. 
The brighter days have brought with them thoughts of how we can make the world around as healthy and beautiful as possible. Given the fast-paced nature of so many of our lives, however, we wanted to provide you with a few simple suggestions to make the planet look its best.
Embrace “e” options:
Send e-invitations for your summer party, pay your bills online, and reduce paper junk mail by doing things like putting yourself on a “do not mail” list for all those pre-screened credit card offers.
Like Labels:
When purchasing household items check labels for things that are “green seal” certified. You can also check your coffee to make sure that it is “shade grown.” Making responsible purchases as a consumer may seem like a small thing, but it truly does have a big impact on our environment.
Flip the switch and make it, too:
As children, most of us probably remember our parents admonishing us to turn lights off when we leave a room. Not only is this practice great for your electric bill, but it helps the environment, as well. Also, consider opening the drapes and raising the blinds to make the most use of natural light for as long as possible during the summer. You’ll lessen your use of electricity while soaking in some needed vitamin D, too. It’s a win-win! Last here: consider switching out at least one of your appliances with one that is more energy efficient and swap out your incandescent bulbs for the greener CFL bulbs.
Go for the cold:
Lowering the temperature of your hot water heater a few degrees and deciding to wash your laundry in cold water are a couple more small things that you can to lessen your energy drain on the environment. Also, consider line drying your laundry during the summer months. If your schedule doesn’t afford you the time, make sure that you dry like items together and remove lighter weight items sooner since they dry more quickly. You can use the auto-dry feature included on newer units to cut down on both your drying time and energy use, as well!
