Volunteering has Value--Help Us Help Kids!

Volunteering Brings Value

In recent years, there’s been some controversy concerning the number of summer festivals that we host here in Northern Michigan.  Some think that the increased traffic, noise, etc. outweigh the value that the festivals bring to the area.  Whether you are one who attends each activity, relishing the concerts, food, and carnival rides, or you stay home until the quieter days of autumn, there is one thing I think we can all agree on: festivals are the perfect opportunity for volunteers to bring support to worthy causes, and volunteering brings value on many fronts.

First, volunteering brings value to a community.  When so many citizens work together toward a common goal, they succeed in making our region more aware and  vigilant to the needs that surround us.

Second, volunteering brings value to an organization.  Often, non-profits are staffed with very few paid employees, so they rely on those like-minded folks who are equally passionate about their cause to help them accomplish things that they wouldn’t be able to otherwise.

Last, volunteering adds value to the life of the volunteer.  Forbes published an article a while back detailing all the personal benefits that volunteering offers to those who choose to do it: they literally are healthier, wealthier, and wiser.

So, even if you are someone who wishes for things to be a little quieter during the warmer months here, we would definitely suggest getting out there and supporting a worthy cause!

Speaking of worthy causes, we recently volunteered in support of the Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center during one of our favorite events: the annual pie baking extravaganza that takes place as part of the National Cherry Festival!  Volunteers, parents, and kids get together to make and bake dozens of pies to benefit the TBCAC and its mission in our community.

We are on a mission this year to raise funds for the

TRAVERSE Bay CHILDREN’S ADVOCACY CENTER!

The Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center does wonderful work helping children and families who are living through the tragedy of abuse. That is why we decided to donate a portion of our income from selling homes to support their mission of helping the children in our region!
